Course
Description
UNIX, is a powerful multi-user, multitasking
operating system that has become an industry standard.
UNIX provides virtual memory and network support,
graphical user interface support, a productive software
development environment and a rapidly expanding
set of end-user applications. This course provides
a comprehensive introduction to the full range of
UNIX user services and utilities. The environment
is SUN SOLARIS running on SUN machines.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be
able to:
- Use the Common Desktop Environment (CDE) to
interact with files and programs
- Navigate the UNIX file system, and use directories,
links and symbolic links
- Understand the Unix command line structure
and file maintenance commands
- Write basic Unix scripts in KornShell/Bourne,
including wildcards, command history and substitutions
- Display and search online documentation (command
manual)
- Find files by name, owner, type or other attributes
- Process data with filters and pipes
- Display and manage system processes
- Perform simple administration, such as backing
up and restoring personal files
- Use the vi editor and perform basic tasks
